Help with M.C. Ideas...ahhhh!

Ok, so for the Optomist speech contest, the winner for the top level gets to "MC" (entertian between speakers) the next year.
This year, I am MC....so I have to entertian around 50(maybe more) people between speakers...there's usually 6-12 speakers. And between each speaker I have to speak for 1-3 minutes. And i have NO IDEA WHAT TO DO! lol...
any ideas? I usually like to do something funny....and it has to be something that when I stop, the audience will want to hear more...

Yeah I would check out youtube first and if that doesn't work theres allot of stuff online! So I would just search around!

I'd learn a bunch of jokes (make sure they aren't offensive like blonde jokes), read interesting facts about who knows what (ask Justin Knopp, he knows a ton), and remember to smile and keep a happy tone. And even tell personal stories. Like taking a trip to the mall and dropped your pretzel or something...

Hahaha...but there's one thing....the group of people I'm gonna be speaking in front of are pretty much 50+ of age....mostly retired people...so it has to be geared more towards them.
Those are all cool ideas! I have until May (but I have a ton of other things happening in March and April, so I won't have much time to work on it then)...
I was thinking something like maybe a countdown...
Like, the top '10' reasons...---- ---- you fill in the blank. Like maybe the top 10 (depending on how many speakers there are) most ridiculace excuses people give...ect...
ANd I do love to tell stories, so somewhere in there I'll be adding stories...

I like the idea of a countdown. Maybe you can do the top 10 reasons people don't like to do public speaking or something.

but that might make the speakers nervous!

Write a short comical story, or find one on the Net, and read it to them 4 minutes at a time.
Or just any story that will end by the time your evening does, it doesn't have to be comical either.
Or read some historical, fantasy story and dress up as one of the characters.
Are you entertaining adults or children?
Children are simple to entertain, tell short stories, splay simple quiet games, they love it. (duck, duck, goose)

Oops, I just read who you are entertaining.
So, you could ask them, person by person, to tell a short four minute story from their childhood.
Older people like telling younger people, or other people, stories from their childhood.
And maybe tell one or two funny ones from yours.
By the way, if you personally write a story and read it to them short chapter by short chapter,
they will be more interested because YOU personally wrote it for them. You don't have to, I
am just spouting ideas.

Ok...I was thinking about the top 10 reasons why people don't like speaking. (thanks Amy! lol)...and in between each speaker...I give one of the reasons.
Like One reasons it scopophobia-the fear of being looked at. lol...but the hard part it making each reason long enough...

You might want to do a sort of "Funny" speach but remember that if it is too funny it might be hard for you to deliver the speach,(Because you a laughing to hard)lol

you can give examples and stuff to take up time, and tell people how to overcome each fear.

Dude, what's the context? Of what is the event? Such things may help...

what kind of event? you gotta look at the context man, the context!

Like a speech event.lol All the speechs are on a certian topic...this year the topic is "To me optomism is..." does that answer the question?

Si, as in what your audience is... why they're there... what's being awarded. You know: context.

My audience is a bunch of people who are retired from work...and are there to support kids in speaking. What's being rewarded? You mean like the what the winners get? First place $1,500 schollar ship...2nd $1,000 and 3rd $500...

Hmmm... So perhaps jokes about public speaking (as others have suggested), money, and/or retirees. People often like laughing most about their own faults, I notice. Pretty bizarro, but it's a start ;-) Good luck!
